Editorial illustration • The Guardian US

The Guardian US asked me to create an editorial illustration to accompany an article about uncovered bones that revealed a Texas town’s forgotten racial past. I wanted to make a connection between sugarcane – with its long, tall stalks – and prison bars. The resulting illustration ran online and was the very first featured image on the Guardian’s illustration Instagram.
